WHY ARE WE CALLED CRYSTAL SPRINGS:
In 1922, a road crew constructed Highway 6. No doubt this was very thirsty work. It didn’t take the workers long to notice a natural spring on the stone ridge. An agreement was made between the property owner and the road crew, to put in a water pipe and concrete trough to hold the spring water for the workers to drink. It became known as "Water Trough Hill". Over the years the water trough helped many travelers with a quick refreshing drink of crystal clean spring water.
Unfortunately, during the reconstruction of Highway 6, a safety hazard was created by traffic stopping for a “fill up” and subsequently the “water trough” was closed. The trough remains, but instead of water, you will see flowers planted as our way of remembering the way things were.
